"Fun of Knowledge" Begins from a new Environment

Հեղինակ:

As a teacher of Grade 1 I am beginning the description of the programmme "Fun of Knowledge" from our school environment: maybe it is more visible to me as I teach Fine Art-Technology. The environment factor is the moving force which makes the learner to be more creative, independent and self-organized irrespective of his/her age.
Let me begin the description of the environment from the model "classroom-laboratory", a room or a hall, where the teacher and the learners spend most of their schooling time.
We, nowadayss teachers and parents, studied in ordinary classrooms still existing in most of the schools, and in the science laboratories where we spent only a few hours a week, and thatss all.

The author educational programme development, which demand that we should have light and large areas with transparent walls, has resulted in a new innovative, creative environment, a classroom-laboratory, where our way of thinking and skills are expected to develop. Besides all the above mentioned properties a classroom-laboratory should also be functional. One can't help thinking about functional properties of a classroom which has an area of 144 m2. To organize activities in the laboratory in the right way I view the area as an ensemble consisting of four separate pieces.

The comparatively less light section of the laboratory has been chosen for the interactive smart board, and the pieces of educational furniture are arranged in front of it. The tables are arranged in П-form with four tables arranged in rombus form in the middle. The total number of tables is 15. This way of arranging tables makes the lessons more effective (we have refused the traditional way of arranging tables in  straight rows long before). The learners always change their places which gives them a  better opportunity to integrate and to establish new interpersonal relationships.

The toilet is in the other section of the laboratory. It is so hygienic and integrated in the environment that nobody is surprised at its existence in the same area.  Outside the toilet there are two sinks with their water taps. This section of the laboratory is tiled. It has a big working table and a comfortable wall cupboard which makes this corner convenient for doing various experiments and realizing new ideas. In this section we intend to grow our indoor plants with the slogan "Each of us has his/her own flower pot".

Here is the third section which is quite light thanks to two wide windows opening into the yard. In this section we intend to have a carpet and sponge cushions which will be provided by parents. We will create a cosy corner where we will have a rest, tell tales and do many other projects.

We also intend to have easles and small chairs in the laboratory. And here is the fourth, the entrance section which is all vitrified. It is the front hall of the laboratory where the area is free and large with convenient hooks corresponding to the average height of six-seven year-old children so that they can themselves use them.   The reader of this small article met the word "intend" several times. Yes, we intend to do all these, and now we are doing it. I think that we will have finished this work by May, and we will have a fully processing functional classroom-laboratory with its environment, learners and activities. It will be a sample of a new model without contradicting to the old one.
